Run Bunny, Run!

Paul and I have decided to get off the couch and start running. I thought that if I wrote about it then we would have some kind of accountability. It's probably fairly obvious to everyone that we do not make ideal running partners, which is one of the reasons why we have never tried it before.

Right now, for some reason, the time is right and we've both made a commitment. To make up for the fact that I can barely even keep up with him when he's walking, let alone running (he's 6' 3", I'm 5' 6", he's lean and I'm... uh, well, I've had four babies, I'll leave it at that) we've decided to go to the track. At least at the track, he can high five me each time he laps me. We are running one minute intervals this week. As we set the stop watch and started the run portion, the illogical part of my brain told me to try to keep up. What was I thinking? I barely stand a chance, it's like the tortoise and the hare, only this hare doesn't stop to let me plod by. I kept hearing Ashley saying "Run bunny run" in my head, it's a cute little story of Ashley being Ashley.

Two years ago, I started a new teaching position at a local elementary school. The kindergarten program was run by a talented teacher that I had worked with at another school and her program was taught over two full days and a half day instead of the traditional five half days in this area. Since I was working two days, I thought this would work out great. Ashley would be with me and we wouldn't have to worry about daycare or half day drop offs and pick ups. From time to time Ashley would need to attend staff meeting with me. She would sit on a couch at the side of the room watching a movie on her DVD player so that she wouldn't be bored and also that she wouldn't be privy to confidential information that could be shared on the kindergarten grapevine.

One day I brought her into the staff room and set her up. Everyone was so busy with their own stuff, including the principal that no-one noticed her. It wasn't until the principal was in the middle of addressing a particularly sensitive matter that Ashley's movie must have gotten exciting because just as he took a breath, Ashley shouted (she had earphones on), "RUN BUNNY, RUN". Let's just say it broke up the monotony of the meeting a little bit!

Well, we've got two runs under our belt. I hope that we can keep it up.

  1. congrats on trying to run, I totally understand having a husband who you can't keep up with, it's really not fair. but if you keep up with it maybe you'll get faster and he'll just stay the same...maybe.
